Astrology is widely known around the world. We hear about it in songs, when people mention the Mercury Retrograde, we get asked about it when we first start dating someone, but what is it really? If you know the bare minimum about astrology and always kind of wondered what this whole zodiac thing was about, this blog is for you.
The Zodiac Signs and Dates:
There are 12 zodiac signs that we pass through each year, they are always in the same order with the same dates. Your sun sign (regular zodiac sign) is determined by where Sun is positioned on your birthday.
Aries March 20 – April 20
Taurus April 20 – May 21
Gemini May 21 – June 21
Cancer June 21 -July 23
Leo July 23 – August 23
Virgo August 23 – September 23
Libra September 23 – October 23
Scorpio October 23 – November 22
Sagittarius November 22 – December 22.
Capricorn December 22 -January 20
Aquarius January 20 – February 18
Pisces February 19 – March 20
Elements
Each sign is ruled by an element that determines the base personality for each sign. If a sign has a matching element, you can usually see many similarities between the signs that share that element.
Aries, Leo, Sagittarius are Fire Signs.
Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn are Earth Signs.
Gemini, Libra, Aquarius are Air Signs.
Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are Water Signs.
Fire signs are known as the hot headed, take no prisoners signs. They are confident, sometimes overly so, but also the life of the party and the ones who are never afraid to speak their minds. They burn their own paths and aren’t afraid to take chances. These are the friends you want to go out with for a wild night on the town.
Earth Signs are known as the more responsible signs of the zodiac. They usually have a plan and don’t like to defer too far away from it. Don’t get me wrong, they can enjoy themselves and can be fun people to be around, but you won’t see them out unless they’ve completed their work first.
Air Signs are the talkers of the zodiac. They usually have a plethora of ideas and can easily express them. They think before they act, but usually don’t think before they talk. They are most likely very intelligent and can be pretty dominant in their field of work.
Water Signs are the emotions of the zodiac. Whether they are outwardly expressing themselves or not, they have a lot going on in their head and heart. They may try to come off as tough, but the ones who know them best know that they are quite sensitive and easily moved.
Element Compatibility
Just by knowing someone’s element, you can almost be certain of what signs they will click with. This doesn’t mean that you can’t get along with all zodiac signs, but usually when you take a look at your friend group, you’ll see a pattern.
Fire Signs and Air Signs are usually compatible because when you mix fire with the right amount of air, you usually get a bigger fire.
Earth and Water Signs are compatible, because the earth needs water to survive and water loves to nourish the earth.
Every now and then, you may see an earth sign with a fire sign, but you’ll pretty much always find trouble there, since fire will burn the earth. And when it comes to fire and water signs, it’s almost certain that water will put out the fire at some point.
Like I said, you will see these signs mix and mingle but most likely, the signs you are most compatible with will be your besties.
Two of the same elements can usually get along just fine, but you know what they say about too much of a good thing.
Qualities of the Zodiac: Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable
Lastly, we’ll discuss the qualities of the signs. These qualities describe how you are with a team, whether it be your family team, a sports team or a work team. Knowing your quality and how it works with your sign can help you discover the best way you can work with others.
Cardinal Signs happen in the beginning of each season (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn). These signs are known to be the leaders of the group. Where Aries may be a leader in a sports team, Cancer may be the leader in the family and domestic department.
Fixed Signs come in during the middle part of the season (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius). These are the signs who won’t budge and are stuck in their ways. Taurus being an earth sign and fixed sign is particularly stubborn and may take a lot of convincing or may not be convinced at all. Scorpio is a fixed water sign who may be very attached to their emotions about certain or most situations.
Mutable Signs are at the end of each season (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces). These are the signs that are comfortable with change and often welcome it. Since they are at the end of the season, they often have learned the lessons of the signs in their season. They are usually more understanding as well as wise. They are the ones in the group that add the final touches to bring it all together.
