Paddle Board Yoga is a fun way to explore yoga in a new atmosphere… in the water to be exact. This activity is usually popular in the summer, but there are Paddle Board classes held in indoor pools around the world. For those of you who like water sports, likes to kick your yoga practice up a notch, and try new and challenging things, this one is for you.
The Process:
In a class, first you’ll have time to get acclimated to your board and enjoy paddling out in whatever body water that you are in. Next, you’ll learn about balancing on your board and get acclimated to the way the board moves as you move. Once you’re calibrated, you’ll begin to do the simple yoga moves, but let’s be real, if this is your first time, these moves will not feel as simple as they were on steady ground. You will learn a new meaning of balance, especially with the threat of plummeting into the water. Then, you’ll finally start to get the hang of it and get more comfortable on your board. If you have a strong core, you’ll learn that activating it will help a whole lot, and if you don’t, it’ll become strong in that moment, it’s the only way. Then the instructor will probably ask you to do some harder poses like headstand or crow, which at this point you’ll most likely begin to hear people fall into the water, if you’re not already dunked in yourself. The class will be filled with laughter and wet flipping hair. Once you’ve been dunked the first time, you’re more likely to go for those harder poses over and over because you’re no longer afraid of the first fall.
Trying new ways to workout allows you to keep things fresh. Paddle Board Yoga has the advantage of being in the water which is great for our emotions. Enjoy the benefits of yoga, the challenge of balance and laughing at your inevitable mistakes, then get back on that board and try again!
